Wilson Knight's Debut Single "Stable Ground" - Review

From the parental nurturing and guidance of the always-innovative Solomon, and his record label SolRay Records, comes the debut single from the newest fierce and fabulous pop artist Wilson Knight. From his platinum blonde hair to his fashionable sense of style, Knight is pumping something new and original into the stale, formula-driven genre that is pop and dance. On the heels of its release today, new single "Stable Ground" featuring labelmate ROB.B, will surely intrigue listeners with its urban contemporary, hip-hop/pop influences. Said to contain a "90s boy band" sound, Knight may be exceeding his own expectations as he has crafted a real, personal look at a crumbling relationship. Available on iTunes right now, the song is a breath of fresh air, a creation that differentiates itself from the rest of the typical, somewhat boring, offerings found on the radio.

"Stable Ground" introduces itself to the music-consuming audience with smooth, urban production before Knight's vocals make an appearance for the very first time. The guidance from Solomon must have played a major influence in the recording as the pop artist comes off sounding quite a bit like his "boss". The vocals stay controlled throughout, as Knight reveals the details of his complicated relationship. "All my friends say your no good, they don't understand you're misunderstood", he sings, creating a sense of confusion in the life of the artist. If the story-like lyrics and impressive vocals were not enough, provocative hip-hop artist ROB.B chimes in with his verse referencing the tabloid-friendly relationship of Chris Brown and Rihanna. We shall never forget!

Wilson Knight has what it takes to make it in the music industry, a sexy voice, a great management team and the ability to craft a catchy hook. "Stable Ground" may not be the underlying definition of what people understand to be "pop", but does it really need to be? The artist took a personal life issue, a story many can relate to, mixed in a 90s urban beat and released a single he should be proud of. While I support Knight's debut single, next time around I would love to see him tackle an effort solo and with the fierce attitude I know he is capable of. Listen to "Stable Ground" below, purchase from iTunes, and check in to EQ tomorrow for the premiere of the official lyric video.
