I'm delighted to be able to announce the line up for this year's exciting CSI Portmouth event. Internationally acclaimed crime authors will be appearing alongside police and forensic experts to debate crime fiction and crime fact at the brand new venue for 2013 at this year’s CSI Portsmouth on Saturday 2 November as part of Portsmouth BookFest.
Taking part in CSI Portsmouth 2013 are crime authors S. J Bolton, Natasha Cooper, M.R. Hall, Kerry Wilkinson and myself. I will be moderating the one day event discussing crime fiction and fact at The Princess Royal Gallery at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Kerry Wilkinson’s debut, Locked In, the first in the DS Jessica Daniel series became a UK Number One Kindle bestseller. Now published by Pan Macmillan, Kerry is the first self-published British author to have an ebook number one and reach the top twenty of the UK paperback chart which he achieved with Think of the Children, the fourth in the DS Jessica Daniel series, published in February 2013. The fifth in the series Playing with Fire is published on 18 July.
S J Bolton’s books have been on the bestseller lists and have been shortlisted for several international awards. Her latest book, Like This, For Ever, was published in April 2013 and her debut novel, Sacrifice, is in the process of being made into a Hollywood film.
Natasha Cooper is author of the Willow King and Trish Maguire novels and those featuring forensic psychologist Karen Taylor published under the name N. J. Cooper. Vengeance in Mind was shortlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) Gold Dagger.
And for those who don't know me. I am founder of CSI Portsmouth and author of the Solent based crime novels featuring the flawed and rugged DI Andy Horton. Hailed in the UK and the USA as the 'Best of British Crime Fiction,' they have been translated into several languages including Chinese. The ninth in the DI Horton series, Undercurrent, was published by Severn House in January 2013 and the tenth, Death Surge is published in September 2013.
We will be joined on the panels by police and forensic experts including:
Michael Ellis, Drugs Intelligence Officer, Hampshire Police, who has worked on drug operations securing hundreds of convictions;
Forensic toxicologist Dr Alex Allan, co-founder of Triple A Forensics and consultant with Manlove Forensics who has dealt with many high profile cases including those involving suspected murders;
Sergeant Tony Birr of Hampshire Police Marine Unit;
Brian Chappell MBE, a former Detective Chief Inspector with the Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard with experience of working on complex and high level investigations and who is now a senior lecturer at the Institute of CriminalJustice Studies at the University of Portsmouth;
Plus Hampshire Police Fingerprint bureau and the Dog Support Unit.
