Pokémon: Sword and Moon game coming out for Nintendo Switch in 2019

Pokémon is releasing a new game this year

During its latest live stream, Nintendo finally gave fans some about the upcoming Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch. The title of the next installment of the popular Japanese franchise is “Pokémon: Sword and Shield.” The mainland games are releasing in late 2019.

Here’s the official trailer of the game, where we can see the first details of the upcoming game. Pokémon Sword and Shield belongs to the new 8th generation of the franchise and brings with it improved graphics with the classic gameplay we all love.

The upcoming RPG titles feature a more detailed 3D art style more similar to the Let’s Go games.

The title will include a new region called Galar, which is seemingly inspired by the UK. As usual, there will be more new creatures, and that includes both adorable pokemon and strange designs showing some kind of Japanese mid-crisis.

Pokémon: Sword and Shield starters

As usual, we have three starter Pokémons, each one of different categories. The starters are the Chip Pokemon Grookey (grass); the water-lizard Sobble (water), and the rabbit Scorbunny (fire).

The Pokémon company describes the game’s setting like this:

Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments — an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and the pokémon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region. Fans will have the opportunity to visit various gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become champion.

Nintendo announced the game is going to be a traditional RPG for the Switch console back in E3 2017.

The developers also assured on 2018 the game’s core was already done. However, there are no real details about the game. Before February 28, we didn’t even know the official game of the installment. Needless to say, today marks the 23rd anniversary of the successful franchise.

What we know about Pokémon Sword and Shield

There has been a lot of secrecy regarding the main adventure. However, Pokémon has been busy as of late.

Last year we saw the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go. These are a couple of Switch games that mixed the traditional RPG gameplay of the franchise with the easier structure of Pokémon Go.

Overall, Pokémon: Let’s Go is the most approachable game of the series so far. Meanwhile, Pokémon Go is still a very popular game -although nothing like it’s release-, and continues to go strong. Recently, the mobile game added an advanced AR photo mode.

Furthermore, we’ll be seeing the premiere of the first live-action movie of the series, Detective Pikachu.
